Motion design of a starfish-shaped gel robot made of electro-active polymer gel

This paper proposes a method to generate novel motions of mollusk-type deformable robots made of electro-active polymer gel. Simulation and experimental results show that large transformations can be obtained with multiple electrodes in a planar configuration. We have designed a starfish-shaped gel robot that can turn over using spatially varying electric fields. © 2002 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
